Deputy Charles Allan Van Meter, 27, died in the line of duty on Sunday evening, June 26, 2011, in an accident while riding in a patrol car after a pickup truck turned in front of the marked unit on State Highway 6 in Manvel. Deputy Joshua Waldrop, 26, who was driving the patrol car, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Deputy Van Meter was single and had been with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office since 2006.
