Trooper Arana, 32, died in the line of duty on Saturday morning, March 24, 2012 at 1:28am, while responding to a pursuit call when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle that ran a red light, in east El Paso. His vehicle caught fire and he died at the scene. Trooper Arana was a U.S. Marine veteran and had been with the Department of Public Safety for two years. He is survived by his wife, Cindy and five small children, ages fourteen, ten, seven (2) and five.
