Officer Florentino Garcia, Jr., while off-duty, was escorting a funeral in the 3000 block of Canal when a vehicle struck him at the intersection of Canal and Ennis. Officer Garcia was transported to Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle, Felipe Martinez, was charged with Negligent Homicide.
