Officer Francis E. Wright was killed when directing traffic around a three car major accident, at night, on the Southwest Freeway at Newcastle. A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed hit Officer Wright, knocking him down the freeway some 40 feet. He passed away later at Ben Taub Hospital.
